Dr. Theodora Christou will lecture on EU law and institutions for those studentswith limited exposure to the subject. This lecture will introduce the EU and itsinstitutions and legal hierarchy. It will provide the new LLM student who has not yet studied EU law with a basic understanding of EU governance. This will be helpful in many subjects as much UK and other Member States’ law and regulation (including banking, insurance, intellectual property, competition law, etc.) are based on EU law.

About the School of Law
In 2015 we celebrate 50 years of law at Queen Mary University of London. Established in 1965, the School of Law has grown from 30 students and four academic staff, to 1,939 students and 115 academic staff in 2014-15.
The School of Law has as its central focus the role of law and its institutions in contemporary international society and it is divided into two organisational units: the Department of Law and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS).
(1) The Department of Law covers the full spectrum of legal studies and is based at the University's Mile End campus.
(2) The Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) specialises in the knowledge and skills in commercial law that can be placed at the service of government, public bodies, overseas institutions, the legal profession, industry and commerce. CCLS is based in the postgraduate law centre at the Lincoln's Inn Fields campus.
In 2016, the School of Law was voted 35th best university in the world to study law by QS World University Rankings by Subject.
Student satisfaction
The School of Law at Queen Mary University of London has been ranked 3rd in the UK and 1st in London in the Guardian University Guide 2016 subject league tables.
In the National Student Survey (NSS) 2015, the School scored 91 per cent for student satisfaction.
Excellent research
We are firmly established as a centre of national and international excellence in legal study and research. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (REF 2014) we were ranked ninth in England, based on 86 per cent of our research activity classed as world-leading (4* the highest score possible) or internationally excellent (3*).
